Witcher 3 expansion Songs of the Past could match Phantom Liberty
CD Projekt Red says The Witcher 3 expansion Songs of the Past could match Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty in size and will launch in 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC.
CD Projekt Red says Songs of the Past, an expansion for The Witcher 3, could match Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty in size and scope. The studio confirmed the expansion is scheduled to launch in 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC, and said Fool’s Theory is leading development with CD Projekt Red providing support.
Associate game director Paweł Sasko posted a clip in which actor Idris Elba reiterates the developer’s distinction between full expansions and smaller DLC. In the clip Elba says, “Because we do expansions big! Massive! Monster! We don’t do DLCs, and when we do, we give them away.”
Community and social media manager Marcin Łukaszewski described expansions as “major pieces of content providing lots of hours of gameplay, including new story, characters, etc.” CD Projekt Red has used that definition when referring to Songs of the Past.
Phantom Liberty added a new storyline, a new map area, multiple quests and new mechanics; contemporary reports placed its main quest at roughly 13 hours and total playtime near 30 hours. CD Projekt Red’s comments indicate Songs of the Past is expected to offer a comparable amount of content and to align with the scope of previous Witcher 3 expansions such as Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.
Official details are limited. The developer says the expansion will return players to the role of Geralt of Rivia for a new adventure. No story details, exact playtime estimates or specifics on new mechanics have been released. The studio has indicated it will provide more information later in the summer.
