Wolverine on PS5 Ships With New Game Plus on Disc

Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine for PS5 will include New Game Plus on the Blu-ray at launch, offering faster, higher-risk replay, extra unlocks, score challenges and collectibles.

Insomniac’s Marvel’s Wolverine for PS5 will include New Game Plus on the game’s Blu-ray disc at launch. Players can enable the mode immediately after completing the campaign. Retail copies will include the mode on disc so players do not need to download a separate update to access it.

Game director Mike Daly said: “On the disc, we’re shipping New Game Plus, which means right after you beat the campaign, if you want, you can play the game over again. And our goal was to make sure that that second time through was just as fun as the first, so we let things be a little higher paced, a little higher danger, and more intensity. It’s just a few more things to unlock that really change the dynamic of gameplay to keep it exciting the second time around.”

New Game Plus raises enemy difficulty and pacing and adds additional unlocks that alter combat and progression on a second playthrough.

Alongside New Game Plus, every level in Wolverine will be replayable and include score-based challenges. Completing those challenges will reward players with collectibles and crafting materials, and will unlock new liquors for an in-game “whiskey collection.”

Sony and its studios have often added New Game Plus to titles weeks after release; Insomniac will include the mode at launch. For a primarily linear single-player game, the developer provided multiple incentives to return to completed levels and to run the campaign again at higher pace and difficulty.

Insomniac’s previous franchises used built-in objectives and replay incentives before platform trophies became standard. Wolverine’s launch-day New Game Plus continues that approach to built-in replay options.
