Xbox reportedly cancels PS5 port of Gears of War: E-Day

Reporter Jeff Grubb says Xbox canceled the PS5 port of Gears of War: E-Day days before the Xbox Showcase.

Reporter Jeff Grubb reported that Xbox canceled the planned PS5 port of Gears of War: E-Day only days before the company’s Xbox Showcase. The title is still expected to appear during the event.

Grubb relayed that the PS5 version “was gonna be on PS5, but it’s not anymore. That just happened,” and placed the change within Xbox leadership decisions rather than technical or development delays. He described the company as reversing earlier plans to release some first-party games on multiple platforms.

Gears of War: E-Day is being developed by The Coalition as a third-person shooter in the long-running franchise. The series appeared on PlayStation last year via a Reloaded release for PS5. E-Day had been planned for PS5 until the recent internal change, according to the report.

A separate industry leaker, known as billbil-kun, said they could not fully confirm the cancellation but claimed a physical PS5 SKU for E-Day exists. The leaker also stated pre-orders for the game would open on Xbox and PC immediately after the Xbox Showcase. Those details remain unverified.

Comments from Xbox executives, including Asha Sharma, have recently hinted at a return to more platform-exclusive releases. Grubb quoted an internal line reflecting that thinking: “exclusives, to what, sell another 20 million Xboxes?”

Microsoft and Xbox have not publicly confirmed the reported cancellation or the existence of a PS5 SKU. With the Xbox Showcase imminent, the company could provide clarification during its presentation. Until Microsoft issues an official statement or shows the title, release dates, platform specifics and distribution plans remain unconfirmed.
