Xbox One Owners Get Free Darksiders Upgrade; PS5 Costs $9.99
THQ Nordic released Darksiders Warmastered Edition for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Xbox One owners receive a free Series X|S upgrade; PS4 owners must pay $9.99 to move to PS5.
THQ Nordic released Darksiders Warmastered Edition for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S on launch day. The publisher is offering existing Xbox One owners a free upgrade to the Series X|S version, while PS4 owners must pay $9.99 to move to the PS5 edition.
For players without a prior-generation copy, the new edition is priced at $29.99 (or £24.99). The company said the PS4 version will remain available at $19.99 alongside the new PS5 edition. The Xbox One listing has been updated to reflect the Series X|S release and now shows the current-gen version at $29.99 for purchase.
Those store listings create different upgrade paths on each platform: Xbox One owners who already own the game can download the enhanced Series X|S build at no extra cost, while PlayStation owners must pay $9.99 to access the PS5 version if they own the PS4 release.
The Warmastered Edition for current-generation hardware includes native 4K rendering, a target of 60 frames per second and Photo Mode support. The package updates the game’s visuals and performance for modern consoles.
Darksiders centers on War, the first Horseman of the Apocalypse. The game combines melee combat, environmental puzzles, exploration and a comic-book-inspired visual style in its revised presentation.
In a launch blog, THQ Nordic wrote: “One of the most beloved action-adventure classics of its era rides onto a new generation of consoles: Darksiders Warmastered Edition is available now for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Step into the boots of War… with native 4K rendering, smooth and stable 60 FPS gameplay, and Photo Mode support on current-gen hardware.” The publisher also reiterated that “players who own the Xbox One version will receive the upgrade to the Xbox Series X|S version free of charge.”
Darksiders Warmastered Edition is available now on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. Owners should check their platform storefronts for the applicable upgrade option and purchase price before downloading or buying.
