Xbox reporter hints at more console exclusives

Xbox reporter Jez Corden said more first-party titles could become console exclusives after Microsoft confirmed Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution.

Jez Corden, an Xbox reporter, suggested more first-party games could be made console-exclusive after Microsoft announced Gears of War: E-Day and Clockwork Revolution as Xbox console exclusives during its recent showcase.

Xbox corporate chief Matt Booty clarified the company will decide exclusivity on a case-by-case basis. He said the team will not convert “big multiplayer games and live service games” or titles already promised to other platforms into exclusives.

Corden suggested some exclusivity decisions could occur over the next 12 to 24 months. He did not identify specific titles.

Microsoft has already confirmed several upcoming first-party releases will appear on multiple platforms. Halo: Campaign Evolved, Fable and Minecraft Dungeons 2 are confirmed for other systems. Senua, State of Decay 3 and Spyro: A Realm Reborn were shown with multiplatform logos during the showcase.

Fans and industry figures have named Kojima’s OD, Marvel’s Blade, rumored remakes of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, and The Elder Scrolls 6 among projects that could be evaluated for exclusivity. Any decision would depend on release timing, contractual commitments and whether a title falls under the multiplayer or live-service exemption.

Microsoft and its studios may announce further exclusivity decisions as release dates and partner agreements are finalized.
