Xbox Series X 4K mode boosts gamerpics and achievement art

Xbox Series X in 4K will render gamerpics and certain game and achievement art at higher resolution; rollout starts with Insiders and expands in a May 2026 system update.

Microsoft will change how the Xbox Series X displays gamerpics and some game and achievement artwork when the console is set to 4K. The update makes those images render at higher resolution on Series X hardware.

The rollout begins immediately for Xbox Insiders and Microsoft plans to include the change in its May 2026 system update for all users. The adjustment applies only to Series X consoles and only alters the resolution at which existing images are displayed.

Xbox engineer Eden Marie announced the update on social media and called it a “fix”, saying the artwork files are not being replaced. Instead, consoles will present existing assets at increased resolution when outputting 4K.

The change covers profile gamerpics and selected in-game and achievement art. An achievement interface refresh with visual improvements is also in Insider builds and is scheduled for the May update.

Microsoft has not specified whether developers must supply higher-resolution source files or whether the system will upscale assets automatically. There is also no plan announced for the lower-powered Xbox Series S.

Visual comparisons shared with the announcement show increased sharpness, though the example images are small. Microsoft has not given a precise release date beyond the May 2026 update window.
