Xbox will show PS5 logos at June 7 Showcase, CEO owns ‘miss’
Xbox will display PS5 logos at its June 7 Showcase. CEO Asha Sharma called Matt Booty’s earlier comments a “miss,” wrote that she owns it and promised changes for future shows.
Xbox will display PS5 logos during its June 7 Showcase, and CEO Asha Sharma described an earlier internal exchange about platform labeling as a “miss.” Sharma wrote on X that she owns the error and that the company will adjust how it handles logos in future live broadcasts.
Earlier the same day, Xbox chief content officer Matt Booty told a podcast audience the company intends to be clear about which platforms games are coming to and wants to maintain its existing practice of labeling. Booty said the Showcase has a system for platform tags and that the team would make that clear during the broadcast: “We’ll be very clear about what platforms a game is coming to and want to continue the precedent. I think we’ve got a good system going where we make it clear in the Showcase.” He also warned the livestream would not be the venue for broader strategic announcements.
The Showcase is scheduled for June 7 and will include first‑party and third‑party titles. Microsoft has confirmed that Halo: Campaign Evolved and Fable will appear at the event and are confirmed for PS5 on a day‑and‑date basis; promotional materials for those releases will include PS5 logos.
Some observers had speculated Microsoft might omit PS5 logos from certain trailers. Industry attention will focus on whether games without confirmed PS5 releases, such as the unconfirmed Gears of War: E‑Day, carry PS5 tags at the end of their trailers. The presence or absence of platform logos has been interpreted as an indicator of a game’s planned platform availability.
Sharma’s public response to fan feedback clarified that the company will review how logos are presented at future Xbox shows. Her post on X read: “Seeing the feedback on logos. It was a miss, and I own it. We are talking about how we adjust for future Xbox shows.”
Microsoft has previously released first‑party titles on non‑Xbox consoles and has publicized multiformat releases. That practice differs from Sony and Nintendo, which typically focus promotional presentations solely on their own platforms.
Microsoft has not issued a broader policy statement beyond the comments from Booty and Sharma. The company’s approach to cross‑platform publishing and any changes to labeling policies may remain the subject of attention until further announcements are made.
