Xbox Teases Sunday Showcase for 25th Anniversary
Xbox says its Sunday Games Showcase will be a “true celebration” of the brand’s 25th anniversary, promising world premieres, new gameplay and updates and no post-show event.
Xbox announced that its Sunday Games Showcase will mark the brand’s 25th anniversary and serve as the centerpiece of its anniversary programming. The company said the live stream will feature world premieres, new gameplay and updates across both first-party and third-party projects.
The presentation will close with a dedicated Gears of War: E-Day Direct, a focused segment for the franchise. Xbox wrote that the stream will include fresh reveals and that there will be no separate post-show event.
Deeper discussion of specific titles will move to the Official Xbox Podcast during the week of June 9, the company added. Xbox said the podcast will give developers and company representatives more time to discuss announced games in detail.
Microsoft introduced the original Xbox console in 2001, making 2026 the brand’s 25th anniversary year. The Xbox Games Showcase has previously been used to announce release windows, gameplay reveals and platform features such as backward compatibility.
Some observers have highlighted expectations for backward compatibility additions, a release date for Halo: Combat Evolved — Campaign Evolved, or returns of original Xbox intellectual property. Xbox did not confirm those items in its announcement.
In a post on its official site, Xbox wrote: “This year marks 25 years of XBOX, and this Showcase is poised to be a true celebration, offering world premieres, new gameplay, fresh updates and more for a swathe of projects we cannot wait to share.”
Viewers can tune in on Sunday for the broadcast; Xbox did not publish a start time in the announcement. The Official Xbox Podcast will carry follow-up interviews and developer discussions during the week beginning June 9.
