Xbox tests four Insider features including color picker

Xbox began rolling out four new features to select Alpha and Alpha‑Skip‑Ahead Insiders on May 29: network status indicator, hex color picker with gamerpic match, expanded update notes and controller preview.

Microsoft’s Xbox began rolling out four new features to a subset of Alpha and Alpha‑Skip‑Ahead members in the Xbox Insider program on May 29. Xbox plans to expand availability to more testers over time, with a wider public release expected in June or July. The updates are presented as quality‑of‑life improvements based on user feedback.

A new network status indicator will appear in the upper‑right corner of the screen when there is a confirmed Xbox service issue. The indicator provides a direct link to a status page that lists affected services and estimated restoration times.

Console customization now accepts hex color codes and adds a “match my gamerpic” option that samples a color from a user’s gamerpic. A preview shows how the selected color will appear across the console interface.

Console update release notes are now accessible from Home’s top navigation immediately after an update. The notes have been expanded to include more detail about new features, changes and major bug fixes so users can review the contents of an update without searching through menus.

The Xbox Accessories app now displays a visual preview of the connected controller. The preview supports standard and special edition Xbox Wireless Controllers as well as the Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, allowing users to confirm the correct model when remapping buttons or adjusting settings.

Xbox wrote that the color tools were “inspired by your feedback” and described the hex entry and gamerpic matching as options for more precise color selection. The company noted that the features are being validated with Insider ring participants before the wider release.

Rollout is limited to selected Insider participants at this stage. Availability will expand to additional testers over time ahead of the broader public release planned for June or July.
