Xenoblade 2’s Torna gets free Switch 2 upgrade with 4K/60fps

Nintendo confirmed that Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna — The Golden Country will receive a free upgrade for the Nintendo Switch 2 on July 30, 2026. The upgraded expansion will run at 4K resolution and 60 frames per second in TV mode and 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second in handheld mode.

Nintendo’s eShop page lists the upgrade details and the July 30 release date, aligning the enhancement with the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Switch 2 Edition launch. The eShop entry specifies that both digital and physical owners of the standalone Torna expansion will receive the free upgrade starting that date.

Players who obtained Torna through the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Expansion Pass are not eligible for the free upgrade. The eShop page states that those players must purchase the “Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack” to access the 4K/60fps TV and 1080p/60fps handheld versions.

The Switch 2 upgrade for Torna coincides with the digital release of Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Switch 2 Edition on July 30, 2026. Nintendo’s listings also show a return for the third game in the series scheduled for December 3, 2026.

The eShop text reads: “On July 30, digital and physical versions of Xenoblade Chronicles 2: Torna – The Golden Country receive a free upgrade enabling 4K resolution / 60fps in TV mode and 1080p resolution / 60fps in handheld mode on the Nintendo Switch 2 system.” It continues: “Players who have Torna – The Golden Country as part of the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Expansion Pass can access the upgrade to 4K resolution / 60fps in TV mode and 1080p resolution / 60fps in handheld mode by purchasing the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition upgrade pack.”

The eShop entry does not list a price for the upgrade pack on the Expansion Pass version. The page frames the standalone upgrade as automatic for qualifying owners and treats Expansion Pass content as a separate purchase option.
