Xevious 3D/G from PS1 returns to PS5 via Arcade Archives

Bandai Namco’s 1997 PS1 shooter Xevious 3D/G will be reissued on PS5 through Hamster’s Arcade Archives 2 on Sept. 24 for $16.99, with full 3D, new weapons and camera angles.

Hamster will release Arcade Archives 2 Xevious 3D/G for PlayStation 5 on Sept. 24, priced at $16.99.

Originally released in arcades in 1996 and ported to the PlayStation in 1997, Xevious 3D/G is a vertically scrolling shooter in the Xevious series. The port converts the original into full 3D, adds new weapons and enemy types, and offers varied camera angles.

In a press release, Hamster wrote, “The classic masterpiece Xevious is reborn in polygons. Everything is rendered in 3D with diverse screen angles and camera work, plus new weapons and enemy characters have been added.” The game includes seven stages, including a desert area featuring a geoglyph and a space fortress.

The Arcade Archives 2 edition includes modern options such as adjustable difficulty and screen settings, support for Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), rewind, rapid-fire and multiple save slots.

Listed gameplay modes are Time Attack, Original Mode, Hi Score Mode and Caravan Mode. The release will also include online rankings for score competition. A trailer is available from the publisher and the PlayStation Store page is expected to go live ahead of launch.

When it first arrived, Xevious 3D/G received mixed reviews. The title sold well and developed a cult following, while some contemporary critics were not impressed by the transition to 3D.

Hamster’s Arcade Archives series reproduces older games with added modern features and conveniences; this release follows that approach for Xevious 3D/G.
