Yoshi and the Mysterious Book appears to use Unreal Engine 5
Switch 2 preload files list UE5-specific licenses for SideFXLabs, Stylized Post Process and KawaiiPhysics, indicating the game was built with Unreal Engine 5.
Switch 2 preload files for Yoshi and the Mysterious Book include license entries that reference SideFXLabs, Stylized Post Process and KawaiiPhysics plugins tied to Unreal Engine 5.
An editor who inspected the preload files found the license records embedded in the Switch 2 build. The entries specifically cite versions of those plugins that are associated with UE5 and list them as owned software components for the title.
SideFXLabs is linked to procedural content workflows and SideFX’s Houdini toolchain. Stylized Post Process covers visual filtering and post-processing effects for stylized graphics. KawaiiPhysics provides physics-driven motion and soft-body behavior for characters and objects. The license entries reference UE5 versions of these tools.
A translated note that accompanied the discovery read, “We knew that Yoshi and the Mysterious Book uses Unreal Engine, but now we know it’s UE5.” Packaging art and marketing materials had earlier identified the Unreal engine generally; the preload files specify the engine generation used in the Switch 2 build.
Nintendo has made in-store demos of the game available across North America. The developer credited for the title has not been officially named; the game’s credits will identify the studio responsible. Good-Feel’s previous Yoshi title, Yoshi’s Crafted World on the Switch, was built with Unreal Engine 4.
Unreal Engine 5 includes newer rendering and lighting systems and updated content tools. The preload license entries do not disclose how extensively those engine systems are used in the final release, only that UE5-compatible plugins were present in the development files.
