Zelda live-action film moved up to April 30, 2027

Nintendo and Sony advanced the live-action The Legend of Zelda release to April 30, 2027; principal photography wrapped last month in New Zealand. Wes Ball directs; Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason star.

Nintendo and Sony Pictures moved the live-action The Legend of Zelda film’s theatrical release up one week to April 30, 2027, from the previously announced May 7 date. Principal photography wrapped last month in New Zealand. The film is co-produced by Nintendo and Sony, directed by Wes Ball, and stars Benjamin Evan Ainsworth as Link and Bo Bragason as Zelda.

Nintendo announced the new date after filming finished. Sony confirmed at CinemaCon in Las Vegas that shooting had concluded. The end of principal photography begins the film’s post-production phase.

Editors, visual effects artists and sound teams are now working on the footage. The studios set the earlier release to match their current schedule; neither company provided additional details about the reason for the date change.

Earlier this year Nintendo pushed the premiere to May 7, citing production reasons. The company has not issued a new statement explaining the week-earlier premiere.

Studios plan to release trailers and hold promotional events during post-production. Further casting and marketing announcements are expected ahead of the April 30, 2027 release.
