Rocket League to shift to Unreal Engine 6 at RLCS finals - ps5.news

At the Rocket League Championship Series finals, Psyonix announced Rocket League will move to Unreal Engine 6, calling the change a “new era” for the free-to-play title.

Psyonix revealed at the Rocket League Championship Series finals that Rocket League will transition to Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 6. The developer showed a short trailer that also included brief footage from other Epic Games projects and displayed the phrase “new era.”

The company confirmed the move will occur at an unspecified future date and provided no firm timeline for when the transition will begin or when players will see content running on Unreal Engine 6. Psyonix gave few technical details about how the change will affect gameplay, updates, or platform support.

The event trailer highlighted Unreal Engine 6 and included snippets from other titles using Epic’s technology. Epic also introduced Unreal Engine 6 at the same moment, placing Rocket League among the games that will adopt the next major engine release.

Rocket League remains a free-to-play title available on multiple platforms, including Nintendo Switch. Earlier this year the game received an update for the Switch 2 that delivered visual and performance improvements. Psyonix has not specified whether the Unreal Engine 6 release will appear first on particular platforms or how it will relate to recent platform-specific enhancements.

No further developer comments, testing plans, or migration details were released at the finals. Psyonix indicated it will share more information as it becomes available.
