Star Fox creator: Switch 2 version matches my Star Fox 64 vision

Takaya Imamura, original Star Fox designer, says Nintendo’s enhanced Star Fox for Switch 2 reflects visuals he imagined while making Star Fox 64. The game launches June 25.

Takaya Imamura, the illustrator and designer who worked on the original Star Fox series, posted that Nintendo’s enhanced Star Fox for the Switch 2 captures the visuals he pictured during development of Star Fox 64. Nintendo has set the release date for June 25 on the Switch 2.

“The new work is exactly the kind of visuals I had imagined in my head back when we were making Star Fox 64!” Imamura wrote in a public post. He added, “I’m also a huge fan of super realistic character expressions. That said, the movie version of Fox is just too cute.”

Nintendo describes the title as an enhanced version of Star Fox 64, updated for the Switch 2 hardware. Official materials released by the company outline graphical updates and performance information ahead of the June launch.

The game returns to the rail-shooter and space-combat gameplay associated with Star Fox 64 while featuring visual updates tailored to modern hardware. Nintendo has presented the release as a revival for longtime fans and an entry point for new players on the Switch 2.

Imamura’s contributions to the original titles included character and mechanical design that shaped the series’ visual identity. His post links those earlier design elements to the presentation Nintendo is using for the new release.

The enhanced Star Fox for Switch 2 arrives on June 25, when players will be able to compare the finished game with Imamura’s description.
