Supermassive's Directive 8020 launches on PS5 - ps5.news

Supermassive Games’ Directive 8020 launches on PS5 today on the PlayStation Store. Standard Edition $49.99. Players control the Cassiopeia crew hunted by an alien that mimics humans.

Supermassive Games’ sci-fi horror title Directive 8020 is available on PlayStation 5 today via the PlayStation Store. The Standard Edition is listed at $49.99. Players control the crew of the colony ship Cassiopeia as they respond to an alien threat.

Directive 8020 is set 12 light years from Earth after the Cassiopeia crash-lands on a planet called Tau Ceti f. According to the game’s description, “Earth is dying and humanity is running out of time. 12 light years from home, Tau Ceti f offers a small sliver of hope.” The description adds that the crew must outwit an alien organism capable of mimicking its prey or risk the lives of everyone on Earth.

The alien can imitate other crew members, forcing players to decide who is human and who might be the threat. The game centers on choice-driven scenes where player decisions affect character survival and narrative outcomes. Encounters take place in confined areas aboard the Cassiopeia and in planet-side locations.

Developer and publisher Supermassive Games applies the studio’s decision-based design used in previous titles to a science-fiction setting. Players make branching choices during tense sequences, and the game’s presentation emphasizes cinematic scenes and character interactions.

Early critic reviews averaged a score of 72 across 45 reviews. In our review we scored the game 8 out of 10 and wrote, “With smoother gameplay and some genuine chills, the extra time in development has definitely helped it.”

Directive 8020 joins several new releases on PS5 this month and is available to purchase now on the PlayStation Store.
